 CONCERT

Concert was a short piece lasting only thirty minutes due to time restrictions, however, it could have continued indefinitely. The performance allowed the audience almost complete control over their audible environment. While very successful it was actually a demonstration of concept – hopefully resulting in a more polished version in the future. This piece used the program Isadora to control its various parts.
During the performance any audience member could type an instruction to request a type of audio sample – these typed instructions appeared projected around the room.

The brightness of the text instructions was linked to the noise levels within the installation space – if the room was silent the projections would go dark, if the room became full of noise the projections would become brighter and more legible.

The text instructions would then be enacted by either the writer or a performer (that was on hand in the event that the audience member was unwilling to make the sound themselves).

The sound byte was recorded by a technician and looped. It would then be layered with other requested sounds to create a soundscape. This performance was described as extremely enjoyable by the audience, who were able to experiment with serious and silly sounds alike. The piece would work well in a gallery setting and after evolving further will hopefully be presented again.
